Color Matters for Durometer Differentiation
When the same part is able to be used on two different products, the savings can be significant. Sometimes the fit is well-designed to be identical, but once testing is completed, two different hardnesses (durometers) might be needed. Using two different colors can help to insure that these identically shaped parts don't get mixed up during assembly.
Custom Rubber Corp. has also developed alternate methods of distinguishing two very similar parts from each other. These include putting parts in a mixer with colored paint - the paint splatters on the part and clearly indicates one similar part from the other.
