At 0.080" thick, this molded diaphragm is a constant thickness over the whole 9" diameter. The fastening features on this particular rubber diaphragm are a series of thru-holes around the OD. The mating parts use the holes to securely fasten the diaphragm in place and make a tight seal.
In application, this rubber diaphragm gets a number of small slits punched in concentric circles. The slits allow air forced from the bottom side to make its way through the rubber membrane and exit the top side as small bubbles. The bubbles aerate wastewater - a key step in treating and cleaning water.
