In cases where the bolt or rod going through the center of the grommet has sharp edges, or in cases where there is a significant amount of lateral force on the rubber grommet, an ID metal sleeve may be necessary. The sleeve doesn't affect the vibration dampening capabilities of the grommet at all - it just gives some structural integrity to the ID hole.
