Our customer needed a specialized, wide-flange rubber molded grommet, and we delivered. The space constraints of the assembly required a very flush-mount grommet. In order to insure that the grommet stays in place, the head and neck diameters had to be extended farther out over the sheet metal than is typical - the low profile (or minimal overall height) of the custom rubber grommet makes it more flexible.
The custom grommet also has customer-specific engraving on the face, including the Tier1 company name, the material type, and Custom Rubber Corp. requested a cavity number engraving as well. This is an example of a Molded Nitrile grommet, or NBR grommet. The material is specially formulated to resist exposure to oils, gaseline, and other solvents.
