Each situation presents its own unique challenges, either from the design perspective, or from the material selection perspective.
In many cases, an integrated lanyard with securing loop is incorporated into the design - such as with the molded rubber parts pictured here. The lanyard insures that the cap is not lost, even when it's not in use.
