One common way to secure a cover to something is to use a rubber grommet feature. With this geometry, the rubber molded cover is designed to press fit into a hole while the outer, larger cover portion extends beyond the opening. Between the press-fit portion and the outer cover, there is a smaller section that is exactly the size of the opening (generally in sheet metal or a plastic enclosure). This molded rubber grommet feature is a cost effective way to design a dust cover - one that is easy to install and easy to remove, while staying in place when necessary.
In the case of the molded rubber grommet cover pictured here, the part is a long rectangular shape, designed for an opening in an electronics enclosure. The material used meets UL-V94 flamability standards and is also resistant to ozone.
