Sorbathane® is a great material for vibration isolation, but it's not very durable in terms of abraision resistance or tear strength. When a leading manufacturer of gun recoil pads started to develop a pad based on using Sorbathane®, they needed some way to contain and protect the material from the rigors of the environment and general use while not interferring with the shock absorbtion properties.
Custom Rubber Corp. was able to help with the design of four different-sized rubber covers that slip over the end of a gun-butt and hold the layer of Sorbathane® exactly where it's supposed to be - between the rifle butt and the shooter's shoulder. In the part pictured here, you can see a faint demarkation line on the molded rubber part indicated the thickness of the Sorbathane® inside the molded protective rubber cover.
The material used for this application has enough stretch to be worked on to the end of a gun butt, with the elasticity to snap into place and stay there. The material is also resistant to outdoor elements and is abrasion resistant to withstand contact with the ground.
The molded rubber parts pictured are not in stock or for sale. These are examples of custom-manufactured products that illustrate Custom Rubber Corp.'s capabilities. Contact us with information on your needs.
