Custom Rubber Corp. had the opportunity to work with a global electronics company on the development of one of the first hand-held GPS devices. As part of the early design team, Custom Rubber Corp.'s engineers worked with other engineers from the customer, the electronics supplier, and the plastic molder to insure that all the components worked together as planned.
The device was designed to be waterproof and that necessitated a molded rubber gasket between the two halves of the plastic housing. The molded rubber gasket had a number of sealing contours as well as internalt details that sealed around the screws holding the case together. In addition to the design, the group determined the best rubber material to use for the custom molded seal. With so much attention paid to the design, the first molded parts out of the tool worked perfectly.
