than 15 minutes per helmet. Custom Rubber Corp. designed and built a mold to make the first, highest volume, sized helmet edging—and preliminary trials suggest assembly time could be cut to less than 5 minutes.
Identifying the Correct Material
Another part of the challenge was finding a material that met a somewhat outdated government specification, was cost effective, matched the Pantone green requirement, and was able to accept and hold the different colored paints applied to the helmet; black, green, tan, blue, etc. After a few attempts, Custom Rubber, together with our material supplying partners, was able to submit a material that was approved.
