Inside many modern appliances, space is tight. When a leading manufacturer of furnaces needed a way to drain flue condensate, Custom Rubber Corp. was a part of the solution with a molded rubber convoluted tube. The convolutes allowed the tube to flex its way around the other components and to drain the condensate to exactly the right place. Although molding rubber convolutes is more expensive than plastic tubing, it's much more flexible and in this case, the material requirements demanded tough rubber.
By using a convoluted tube, the installation is easier because the tube can be flexed as it is installed, and it's also much eaiser to carry the rubber convoluted tube over to the next generation furnace, even if the path the condensate has to travel changes a bit - the tube curves any way necessary.
