When an off-the-shelf grommet wasn't the rights size, this customer contacted Custom Rubber Corp. The sheet metal in this case is 2mm thick (the height of the grommet neck), and the overall diameter is quite small at just over 1/2". The ID of the custom molded grommet had to be just the right diameter to accept the plastic molded, four-holed insert - slightly undersized so the the insert stays in place when press fit.
The material choice in this case is an abrasion resistant, gray SBR and Natural blend. This material is very pliable which allows for easy install but also very abrasion resistant and tough enough to handle the sharp edges in the sheet metal hole.
