Appliance Magazine recently reported that Whirlpool is moving 80-100 manufacturing jobs and the production of their commercial front-load washing machines from a factory in Mexico to their factory in Ohio. Whirlpool is focused on manufacturing product close to where it is consumed - something many other companies are also realizing as a benefit.
Localized manufacturing can increase responsiveness to changes in customer demands and can also assist with revision changes, not to mention the reduction in required inventory carrying costs to provide the same level of service.
Modern manufacturing facilities in the USA are capable of producing product at or very near the costs of the same products produced overseas or south of the boarder - especially when the total supply chain costs are considered.
If you haven't explored localizing your supply chain, take a cue from Whirlpool and many other large manufacturing companies; buy local, buy US.
