Custom Rubber Corp. has raised wages for entry-level machine operators for the second time in less than a year. According to President Charlie Braun, “Our business demands talented, dedicated employees and we are adjusting our wages accordingly to attract and retain the right kind of people. We're making up for lost time.”
Within the last year, the starting wage has increased from $8.70 (with a bump to $9.20 after 60 days) to $10.00 (with a bump to $11.00 after 60 days). This is a 20% increase in 9 months. The result has been an increased ability to attract and lure employees away from other companies - employees with a strong work record and a dedicated attitude.
The jobs included in this starting wage adjustment are press operator and finishing/inspection employees. Press operators are required to operate all functions of their machine(s) including proper startup and shutdown, demolding and deflashing parts, quality inspection of parts, and accurately recording their production information including lot traceability. Finishing/Inspection employees are responsible for hand trimming and inspecting parts for defects, and labeling and packaging parts for shipment.
Custom Rubber Corp. is committed to continuously improving the work environment and adjusting the starting wage is just part of this commitment. The company priorities are well known to all employees;
- Safety - without safety, nothing else matters and safety is everyone's job at Custom Rubber Corp.
- Quality - customers demand certain levels of quality and any shipment or production of poor quality parts wastes time and money and jeopardizes our relationship with our customers.
- Production - the third priority because we have to be focused on producing parts efficiently, but only after the first two priorities.
By committing to these three priorities, Custom Rubber Corp. keeps everyone focused on three simple things that are easy to remember and direct all of our actions.
